Zills of Fury?

Passion is very important in dance of any kind!  And zills, or finger cymbals, are Alicia’s favorite prop to dance with, which is where the name for this lovely site came from.  Alicia’s shows include not only her “Zills of Fury” but also mysterious veils, tricky double veils, shiny Isis Wings, smoldering candles, traditional canes, and intimidating swords.  Fun for the whole family!

About Alicia

Alicia has been dancing in Colorado Springs since 2002.  She has studied many forms of Oriental Dance including Turkish Rom, American Tribal Style, Classical Egyptian, Saidi, Tunisian and primarily Cabaret!  Alicia is also a member of the Colorado Springs troupe Gidda Hoop

Classes

Classes at the Colorado Academy of Music and Dance:

  • Beginner Belly Dance
    Tuesday at 7pm
    Saturdays at 12pm

The Beginner Belly Dance class is a great class to drop in on, at any level! You will learn how to take the foundational movements of belly dance and put them into fun combinations.  Alicia breaks down each movement for all learning styles and teaches through repetition and drilling while also leaving room for free-expression dancing.  Not only is this class a great workout because you are constantly moving, but it is also a great class to foster healthy body image and confidence. This class also introduces the finger cymbals, belly dance history, performance, folkloric styles of dance and choreography.
  • Intermediate Belly Dance
    Tuesdays at 8pm

Incorporating props (zills, veil, sword, etc) into the lesson plan, this intermediate class is great for those ready to move on to the next level. This class includes topics such as performance, choreography, layering, shimmy technique, the physics of veil-work, and complex step-combinations. More detail is given to the different styles of belly dance (folkloric, cabaret, tribal) and the different rhythms. We are consistently working on choreography and perform frequently.
  • Kids' Belly Dance
    Saturdays at 11am

This class is great for kids 5-12! As Alicia is certified in Child Development, this is a fun, age-appropriate class. Not only will children learn cultural awareness, healthy body image, coordination skills, and exciting new ways to cheer but they will also learn fun choreography and simple belly dance combinations.

Other Classes:

This will be an hour of constant movement and aerobic exercise to infectious Middle Eastern rhythms. Great for all levels of belly dance as it can prepare the beginner and tone-up the advanced dancer. Please contact Alicia for time and location, as this course is an 8 week session.
